Pro Bono Representation

Robert started his legal career at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office, representing indigent individuals charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses. Representing indigent clients has been one of the most rewarding aspects of Robert’s legal career. After leaving the Public Defender’s Office in 2000, Robert has continued representing clients in civil rights matters.

In 2012, Robert was awarded the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by Northern California Lawyer Referral Service (NCLRS). NCLRS provided attorney referrals for indigent individuals in 27 Northern California counties. Robert handled dozens of cases forNCLRS clients and never charged a single client a fee during his service as a NCRLS Panel Attorney. 

In 2016, Robert was awarded the James Ramsey Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service by the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California. Robert never declined a case referral during his years as a VDRP Panel Neutral, and successfully resolved several difficult and time-consuming disputes.
Robert intends to maintain a Pro Bono caseload of 20% of his active civil caseload.
