Pro Bono (25% of Robert’s Caseload is Reserved for Pro Bono Clients)

Robert started his legal career at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office representing indigent individuals charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses. Robert completed his first criminal jury trial before becoming a licensed attorney and secured an acquittal for his client charged with a DUI. Representing indigent clients established an important foundation for Robert’s Pro Bono efforts in the years that followed. After leaving the Public Defender’s Office in 2000, Robert has committed himself to providing Pro Bono legal services to countless clients with no other recourse than the legal system.

In 2012, Robert was awarded the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by Northern California Lawyer Referral Service (NCLRS). NCLRS provided referrals indigent individuals to competent attorneys in 27 Northern California counties. Robert handled dozens of cases for clients and never charged a single client a fee during his service as a NCRLS Panel Attorney. 

In 2016, Robert was awarded the James Ramsey Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service by the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California. Robert never declined a case referral during his years as a VDRP Panel Mediator, and successfully resolved several difficult and time-consuming disputes.

Robert intends to maintain a Pro Bono caseload of 25% of his active civil and criminal caseload.
